tWR Guide

Sun Nov 14, 2010, 9:33 PM by jonathoncomfortreed:iconjonathoncomfortreed:

theWrittenRevolution can be a confusing place for new members. We're a unique and large group, with our own projects, organization and rules, but we aim to give each writer the opportunity to add their flame to the revolution, and that's why we've compiled this guide. It is a directory of different blogs designed to give explanation and direction for different aspects of the group.

Submissions

With so many members, we have to enforce rules to make sure that everyone has an equal chance at getting feedback on their deviations. Each submission must be accompanied by proof of a critique and specific feedback questions are mandatory, so we've written two guides to help make requesting, giving and receiving critique easier.
> General Rules and FAQ
> How to Ask For Feedback
> How to Give Feedback

Administration

The administration system is more complex than we let on; there's a lot going on behind that little 'Back Room' tab. As you can see on the About Us page, the administration is broken up between Lead Writers, Directors and Guest Revolutionaries. However, each admin has specific responsibilities, so we've created a guide on how we work as together to run theWrittenRevolution. If you're interested in becoming part of the team, send us a note!
> Administration
> Alumni

Projects

theWrittenRevolution is an extremely multi-faceted group. We have a lot of projects and there's always something going on for you to get involved in. Of course, it might get confusing at times, so we've put together a set of guides on what each of our projects are about.

> Prompts
> Chat Events and Forums
> Writers of the Revolution
> Networks
> Resources for Aspiring Authors
> Past Projects

If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to send us a note :note: and we'll be happy to help.

A Daily Literature Deviation. :) *DailyLitDeviations is an account that posts daily news articles with features of literature. They're not official or anything, like DDs, just a group of people working to promote literature on dA. But their news articles get quite a lot of exposure on the site.

We haven't in the past, do you think it's something we should start doing? I'd be happy to discuss it with the other admins.

hey yeah, actually I think its a fantastic idea, certainly something worth your consideration.

You see, I can write for hours, but I sometimes have difficulty getting started on a subject. opening phrases, subjects both fiction and non fiction and at times settings can be difficult to just call upon from nothing. Sometimes it isn't but there are those times it is. Especially for those of those who write daily, just to stay in practice or remain in focus of their craft. So, I draw upon prompts others suggest. I do this to fire off free writes. But recently I've come to realize there is a distinct lack of intriguing material or prompts to draw upon. The other day I found a random prompt generator online and it actually told me to "write in detail about my daily hair-care routine." the other prompts were no better. I don't know about you, but a prompt like that doesn't necessarily inspire a sonnet. Its first aid for writers block, you could suggest and have the people of your community contribute ACTUALLY creative writing prompts that do inspire sonnets, essays, fiction, etc. It doesn't have to be things like "whats your warmest childhood memory" although it certainly can be.. it can be wild like "death and love confront one another in a dialog" or ridiculous like "you find yourself in the court of the King and queen of the moon people...". or general meditation of concepts like time, or departure, or the divine.

Opening phrases, or first lines, settings, quotes, inspiring prompts all of these are useful resources in writing. Everyone gets stuck. Have you ever had such a lust to tear up your notebook or computer to write something, anything, but just couldn't get started? Its like having literary blue balls if you don't mind the brusqueness of that statement. Daily or weekly or even monthly prompt suggestions would be a fantastic way to stimulate activity in your community, it doesn't have to be a contest. just something for people to participate in if they need it. You could suggest a prompt and see what people do with it. either by submission or what have you.

Anyway, its just an idea, I didn't mean to rant or anything. I find at least for myself it can be very difficult to get started without a good prompt. :)
