Why hello you lovely person checking my hair for lice...or maybe it's the skull fracture I got from the drama over the last few weeks you're looking for? Well, whatever it is, put down your lice comb or suture kit and listen up...because I have a treat for you. What type of treat you ask? Well, while I don't have candy, cake or oreos, I do have a contest. Contest? Did I say contest? Why yes I did! You've arrived at the wonderful home of what I like to term:

Why, Jo, isn't this the contest you host annually in April/May to celebrate your birthday? Yes, it is...but because I'm a sucker for punishment and have a bit of free time I thought - why not host it twice this year and give the kiddos something do to with all those mad skills they have? See, I'm being generous and promoting talent. Also, as an aside, anyone ever notice how Lucy Lawless (Xena) has the most amazeballs facial expressions? Love her to bits - and this journal is going to be a bit of a Xena-fest gif wise (because I can). Also, what an utterly emotional show that is/was? Someone always nearly dying, revelations into pasts and futures, friendship (and love) that beat all the odds and boundaries...gives me grills (those shivers down your spine, in case you don't know the word) just thinking about it...must get my DVD's out and watch the show again...or stream it from somewhere. Anyway, I went off on a bit of a tangent there...let's rewind and start again shall we?

Right, let's rewind to the original topic of conversation: MagicalJoey's Anthology Contest III

What It Is

Well, silly banana, it's a contest. What that means is that there will be AMAZEBALLS prizes (which I am still gathering - more about that later) and winners and all that jazzy stuff. Interested? Read on, soldier, read on!

If you're a poet (sorry prosers, this is not for you) like me, you dream of maybe publishing an anthology one day...chapbook, hardcover, paperback - something that is your words in print for the world to see and keep on their shelf and read when they need a pick-up, put-dow or quiet cry of the soul...you get my drift? An anthology is a collection of poetry, usually on a central theme or topic. So, why not get your practice on and write one here, on DA, for THIS contest! Interested? Of course you are!

While this contest is an anthology one - the theme is utterly up to you, that means you can write on ANYTHING that tickles your fancy, as long as you have the required amount of poems. Pets, Cold, Space - those are just some of the previous themes that have come about...but really it's up to you as to what you write on. Must I say more? Probably, which is just what I will do. But first, another gif:

Contest Parameters

As I said, the theme is up to you...but there are some 'parameters' in place (not rules exactly, they will come later).

There must be a minimum of six (6) poems in this anthology

They can be in any form/length, as long as it's reasonable

You will be awarded 'points' by the judges (more on that to come) and the highest score of all points tallied up wins

You can earn bonuspoints to help you get that super high score you dreamed of

Theme is up to you, but the theme needs to be apparent throughout the anthology

You must abide by DA's rules and guidelines and tag things that need tagging (mature filters, trigger warnings, etc)

The contest will run until the end of November (allowing you a month to write and a month to polish and submit)

Points

As mentioned, you will earn points from your judges (more on that to come) but can earn 'bonus' points by doing one (or more) of the following:

Having fourteen (14) poems in your anthology gets you three (3) extra points

Writing your poems entirely in fixed forms gets you two (2) extra points

Writing a journal/poll/status update promoting this contest (and linking it to me on this journal) gets you two (2) extra points

Having more than fourteen (14) poems gets you one (1) additional point per poem
_{This is in addition to the three (3) points for having fourteen (14) poems...e.g. sixteen poems = 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 points}

Judges and Judging

I'm looking for some amazing people to judge this with me...judges cannot enter the contest!
Anyone can judge, it's following a rubric after all, and I will explain everything in detail when the time comes. If you want to judge, or want to recommend someone to judge, note me ( MagicalJoey ) or comment on the original journal.

Your Criteria

5 points for following the rules

20 points for creativity

25 points for a cohesive theme that is apparent throughout all poems

25 points for quality of the pieces

20 points for uniqueness

5 points for the judges opinion of the piece

Rules and Guidelines

You must write a minimum of six (6) poems

All six poems must be submitted as one deviation
_{This means: Either submit as a PDF with each poem on a page, or submit as a text deviation with all your deviations clearly demarcated by either a title or a line or something}

These pieces must be new to DA as of 28 September 2017

The poems must be linked by a central theme or setting
_{I.e. you've set them all in the 1960's or they are all about Halloween}

In your artist's comments please put the following:

A summation paragraph where you briefly explain your poems and setting. Things to include: Why you chose to write on what you did, what inspired you or what the setting/theme is (in case it isn't clear)
A link to this journal, mainly for reference but also so that others can see about it

Mature content is allowed, although it's not encouraged. I do read it, but some of the others may not as it's personal preference

POETRY only please

You may choose to write your poetry in fixed forms or free verse. It is up to you
