Welcome to our sixth publishing opportunity! :dummy: This Monday, we have a call for submissions to a fiction anthology and a bonus publishing project from on deviantART. Good luck to anyone who decides to submit!

The opportunity:

Lemon Twist Press (cool name, eh?) is calling for submissions to their new fiction anthology, "Second Avenue Second Hand". Although they're primarily looking for short stories, there is also an option to submit poetry pieces for consideration as a sort of pre-prologue to the book.

The details:

The submission page with full information can be found here. They're looking for stories from 2,500 to 10,000 words in length in any genre except for erotica and children's fiction. Here's a quote from their website to give you an idea of what to submit:
The unifying theme for this project will be an old, run-down second hand shop which must appear briefly in every story.   The name of the shop is: Second Avenue Second Hand.

Each story will center around an object - any object one might find in a second hand shop.  The object you choose will drive your story i.e.: good luck, bad luck, or worse!  The object may have been just purchased and then the story ensues, or, the object was bought long ago or perhaps passed down from a family member and now needs to be gotten rid of (this might be were the bad luck or worse comes in).  So we can typically expect to see your main character in the shop either at the beginning of your story or at the end.  The story is not about the shop, it is about your character(s) and the item and what it has caused in their lives.

How to submit:

Submissions must be sent to secondavenuesubmissions@gmail.com, with the word "submission" in the subject line.

More information:

This project is being crowdfunded, but provided it's successful, they plan to pay a minimum of $100 for short stories and $50 for poetry! Submissions are open until August 31st, 2012, so you have plenty of time (but don't leave it too late, especially if you're a procrastinator like me... ;))

The site doesn't appear to specify whether they accept international submissions or not, but as there is no US-only guideline I assume they do. I encourage you to email them and ask if you're unsure (same email address as for submissions, but put "question" in the subject line).

Bonus!

Michael Grin (michealgrin) recently noted the group with details of a contest based around his book, Princess Nonomi. Although it is a fan art contest, writers are welcome to enter as well:
All forms of art are welcome to enter the contest. Photographers, painters, digital artists; whatever it is you do, it doesn't matter. This includes writers. As long as the entry has to do with the book Princess Nonomi, by Micheal Grin and published through Damnation Books. That includes fan fiction.

The submission must involve one of the four preview posts I submitted to deviantART. It can include all four of the chapters or just one. Anyone submissions involving a chapter not submitted by me on my deviantART account, should the artist have read the entirety of the book already, will be disqualified. The submissions MUST have a link to the chapter involved.

The deadline for submissions is August the 1st, 2012, and there are some great prizes involved, including Premium Memberships to dA donated by the lovely pullingcandy.

Please keep in mind, though, that you have to be aged 18 or over to submit to the contest as the book is aimed at a mature audience. The article states that any entries by under-18s will be disqualified. (Apologies that this bonus excludes younger members!)

Details can be found here.
